The roof and walls of metal buildings should be insulated to conserve energy, prevent condensation and improve acoustical performance. 

MATERIAL

The insulation shall be flexible fiber glass metal building insulation.  The insulation shall be faced with a vapor retarder having a permeable rating of not greater than 0.1 as tested in accordance with ASTM E96, Desiccant Method.

The composite product shall have a fire hazard classification of 25 (maximum) flame spread index and 50 (maximum) smoke developed index (FHC 25/50) when tested in accordance with ASTM E84 or UL723.

When using high R value systems, the cavity between the exterior metal sheet and the faced fiber glass insulation must be filled with insulation and properly ventilated.  Use filler blanket in conformance with ASTM C553, Type 1, Class B-1 to fill the space.

More metal buildings are being insulated with fiber glass than any other insulation because fiber glass combines low initial installation cost with long-term savings in heating and cooling costs.  But all blanket-type fiber glass insulations are not alike – each one is designed for the intended end use to meet the requirement of the particular service.

ATTRACTIVE FINISHED INTERIOR WITH LIGHT REFLECTIVE SURFACE

Insulations with vapor retarder facings, applied by local laminators are available with a choice of attractive, bright and functional wall and ceiling treatment.  This increases the efficiency of lightning by acting as a reflector.  Many types of facings are available, including reinforced vinyl and polyester films.

Metal building insulation lowers fuel and power costs by making the most efficient use of heating and cooling energy.  Because insulation helps control the amount of heat gained and lost through the building shell, it reduces the amount of energy required to replace lost heat thereby lowering energy bills.  By adequately insulating a metal building it is possible to lower initial costs by reducing the size of heating and cooling equipment.

PREVENTS CONDENSATION

The facing on the insulation, in addition to acting as a decorative protective barrier, is an integral part of the overall insulation system.  It resists the passage of moisture vapor, reducing the possibility of condensation within the insulation or on the cold building shell.  Condensation control is provided by using sufficient insulation thickness to maintain the vapor retarder facing at a temperature below the dew point temperature of the ambient indoor air under winter conditions.  The long term performance also depends on providing a continuous membrane to prevent moisture from by-passing the vapor retarder to condense on the cold surfaces.  Such condensation can wet the insulation and degrade thermal performance and service life.

This product is designed to be installed using appropriate machines.  The machine setting supplied by the manufacturer for this equip should be used carefully in order to get optimum results.  The equipment must be designed for fiberglass and has to have an effective shredding section, a controlled feed section and sufficient air volume to achieve the desired result. To achieve stated R-values, the insulation must be installed at these minimal thicknesses and maximum coverages.  Failure to install both the required bags and at least the minimum thickness will lower R-value.  Net coverage includs framing.  Not for exposed
applications.  Insulation should not be installed over eave vents or near light fixtures or other heat generating devices.

Clossed cavity applications can be difficult to judge material usage during installation since fiberglass is compression filled In the cavity.  Make sure you are monitoring material usage as the job progresses, so that the proper number of bags are being installed for pneumatic application only.  This product meets or exceeds the requirements of
